Darlene Pharr

Our beloved mom Darlene Pharr got her angel wings and left this earth on 30 January 2021 at the age of 95 to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  She was born 20 June 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee.  Darlene attended High School in Paris, Tennessee and was active in sports and social activities. After High School she met our Dad, Lydell Pharr, and was married on 16 January 1943. They had three children Martha, Margaret and Mark.  Dad was in the Army and transferred to Alameda, California in the early fifties.  For many years Darlene kept the books for her late husband in his dental business.  She participated in and was a member of many organizations such as Eastern Stars, Lions Club, Boys Club of America, Alameda High School Sports Program, AARP at the Senior Center, Mastick Senior Care Club and was a United States Bowling Conference member.  She took great pride in raising funds for the City of Alameda Basketball program. From 1982 to 1986 she served as a member of the Alameda Parks and Recreation Board. Afterwards she served as Recreation Commissioner on the Board from 1986 to 1990.  She was a fanatical fan for her favorite sports teams the Oakland A's, the Oakland Raiders and the Los Angeles Clippers.  After the passing of her husband and 54 years in Alameda she made her home in Ridgecrest to be closer to family.  Darlene made many friends and enjoyed playing bridge and bowling.  She was always on the go and enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her brother Bud Jones and sister Peggy Manning.  Darlene is survived by her two daughters, Martha Caird-Waller and Margaret Pharr-Ashe, along with her son Mark Pharr; as well as, five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.  Darlene spent her final years at the High Desert Haven where she received the best of care.  She also received loving care from both her personal doctors, the staff at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital and Bella Sera.  Private interment will be on 26 February 2021 at Desert Memorial Park.  A memorial service will be held on 3 April 2021 at 1pm in the Holland and Lyons Mortuary Chapel.
