Heaven gained an angel on September 17, 2024, with the passing of our mother, Delilah Delores Padgett. She went home to be with the Lord and her two children who passed before her. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her loving family. Our hearts are broken, but we find solace in knowing she entered the gates of Heaven free of pain and filled with joy.
Delilah D. Padgett was born on November 3, 1941, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Florence and Joseph Lee. She had two siblings, Alice Moody and Libby Lafferty. She grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, until her family relocated to Bakersfield, California, in 1950 and then to Ridgecrest, California, in 1953. She started her family young, having six children of her own: Betty, Tammy, Mark, Rachel, Dee Dee, and Jennifer. In 1987, she married John Hall Padgett, gaining six more children: Mark, Kimmie, Lance, Tina, Pennie, and Tony. This blended family left a legacy of 29 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 more on the way.
She was well-known in the community through her years of employment with the Drawing Room, John's Pizza, and the Homestead, where she became affectionately known as "Momma Dee." Most recently, she took pride in her and Dad's dedication as part of the Sagebrush Short Line Railroad family. After retirement, she devoted her time to the community by volunteering at the Women's Shelter.
