Dennis John Vavricka
Born April 24,1936 in Watertown, South Dakota to James and Mary(Schanil) Vavricka. Dennis grew up in Waverly, South Dakota. Graduated from high school in 1954. He worked for Gary's Photography Studio in Watertown. His passion for photography stayed with him throughout his life.
Dennis married Anita Konrady on September 6, 1958. He entered the U.S Army in 1959. Dennis was stationed at Batzbach, Germany until 1961. While stationed in Germany, Anita joined him. They visited relatives in Austria and Holland while traveling throughout Europe.
Dennis and Anita moved to Ridgecrest in March of 1961. He worked at China Lake Naval Base(NAWS) until his retirement in 1994. Dennis also worked at the Flower Shoppe creating beautiful arrangements and decor. Dennis' photography from his time on the base can be found at the Maturango Museum. After retirement, they traveled to many states throughout the United States and abroad. Dennis enjoyed garage sales and collecting antiques, finding his treasures along the way. Their home was a place where family and friends gathered for delicious food, cheer, laughter and music. Their home was open to all.
Dennis was active at St. Ann's Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Community. In previous years, Dennis was part of decorating the church for holidays and special occasions.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anita Vavricka. By his children, Darrin Vavricka, David Vavricka, Kristen Vavricka-Morton and son-in-law, Mark Morton. By his grandchildren, Ashley Khoja and husband Ali Khoja, Alexandria Kleiner and Dennis A. Vavricka, and his only living sibling, Donna Leonards.
He is preceded in death by many family member; James and Mary Vavricka(Parents,) Harry (Eleanor)Vavricka, Glen Vavricka, Robert (Muriel), Vavricka, Davy Lee Vavricka, Donald Vavricka, Alyce (LeRoy) Scanlon, Joanne (Joe) Schmidt, Dorothy Vavricka, Helen (William) Comes, Evelyn (Joseph) Hasbrouck, and Henry Leonards
