Dougall Walter Boyd (Doug), Born 14 March 1935 in Pasadena, CA; died peacefully at home on 25 January 2026
The Boyd family moved to China Lake in 1952. Doug attended schools on base and graduated from Burroughs High School in 1953. Doug obtained the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts of America when he was in High School.
He supported the mission at China Lake and retired after 38 years in 1999. Post China Lake he learned to be an EMT and later got his commercial driver's license and drove cross country payloads.
He served in the US Navy Reserves for 4 years and US Air Force Reserves for 20 years and received an USAF Honorable Discharge in 1995.
Doug was preceded in death by: his parents Thomas Walter and Virginia Boyd, first Wife Claire Boyd, Brother Tom Boyd, son Mark Boyd, niece Laura Boyd- Serpanos, and great niece Sarah Wyatt
He is survived by his wife Sue (of 13 years) Daughter and son in law Kathleen (Jeff) Gipe, Sister in Law Lahoma Boyd. Brother and sister in law - Mallory (Patricia) Boyd, Sister and brother in law-Mary (Gary) Schmierer. Step-daughters Denice (Ron) Jones, Beth Moline and Valerie Currier.
Grandchildren: Robert Boyd, Amber Boyd , Tyler Boyd, Derek Boyd, Laura and Kyle Gipe, Oren Hunter, Valeri Currier, and Beth Moline.
Nieces: Wendy (John) Corum, Naomi Schmierer, Virginia {Ty) Dennison, Amy (John) Bryant, Jennifer (Victor) Peel
Nephews: Ken (Amy) Wyatt, Jason Boyd, Joseph Schmierer, Daniel (Katie) Schmierer,
Joshua (Kayna) Jacobs, Dustin (Racheal) Boyd, Robert Schmid
Great Nieces (3), Great Nephews (10)
Celebration of Life for Doug will be help at Bethel Baptist Church, 4200 Johnston Ave, Ridgecrest, CA 93555. 28 February 2026 11:30 am. Followed by a potluck lunch .
Internment for Doug will be at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30339 E Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin, CA 93203 at 12:30 pm 27 February 2026.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bethel Baptist Church Ridgecrest, CA
