Edle Synnove Karlstrom Edle was born April 8, 1928 in Ulefoss, Telemark, Norway. She was confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran Church in 1942. She survived the German Occupation of Norway from 1940 to 1945, then at age 18, went to work in a hospital in Sweden to begin training to as a midwife. In 1950, she immigrated to the United States, sponsored by friends in Portland, Oregon. There, she met and married Albin Karlstrom in 1952. They moved to China Lake in 1954, where Al worked at Michelson Lab. Edle had three daughters, Linda, Inger and Susan. She became an America citizen in 1955, while expecting Inger. She took citizenship classes by mail, since there was no school locally, and had to travel to Los Angeles to be sworn in. Edle has always been a member of the Lutheran church and has attended Grace Lutheran church in Ridgecrest for many years. She has generously supported many charities over the years. She enjoyed having friends over for a meal in her home and was a fabulous cook and excellent homemaker. Edle and Al moved from the base out to Ridgecrest in 1974, where they lived ever since. Edle passed peacefully, at age 90, on October 28, 2018 in Ridgecrest, Kern, California. There will be a viewing Friday, November 9th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Holland & Lyons Mortuary, 216 S. Norma, Ridgecrest, CA. Services will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 10:00 am, at Grace Lutheran church, 502 N. Norma St., Ridgecrest, CA. Edle has requested that donations to your favorite charity be made in lieu of flowers. Albin and Linda preceded Edle in death. She is survived by daughters, Inger Orr and Susan Hurst, nine grandchildren (one, Matthew Orr, preceded her in death), and 17 great-grandchildren.
