Obituary

Flint William Jacobs, 84, of Ridgecrest, California, passed away on June 19, 2026, surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Jacobs, wife Debra Jacobs, brother Ellis Jacobs, and son Stephen Jacobs. He is survived by Elizabeth Schlick and Rachel Schlick, daughters; Erick and Lisa Jacobs, son and daughter-in-law; Teddy Jacobs, brother; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and Bam Bam, his cat.

Flint was born in Los Angeles, California, on June 23, 1941, and decided shortly after that city life was not for him. He graduated from Colton Union High School in 1959 recalling fondly his time square dancing. After high school, he spent summers as a cowboy in Mullen, Nebraska. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Northrop Institute of Technology in 1967. He earned his master’s degree in administration from CSU Bakersfield in 1995.

Flint was married to Shirley Thiele from 1973-1992 and adopted Eddie, Sheila, Rhonda, Erick and James along with fostering Becki, Kathi, Johnny, and Rona. Flint was a true family man. We were raised on motorcycles, fishing and camping. He also loved his horses Cherokee Lady and Tonka. He taught us how to work on cars and spent many weekends taking us motorcycle racing. Our summers were often spent in Kennedy meadows cutting wood and making memories together. His love for family, hard work, and the outdoors will always be remembered.

He married Debra Jacobs in 1994 and was a father figure to Liz and Rachel. He taught them how to drive, how to setup camp in bear country, how to take care of a house (the project isn’t done until the tools are put away), and perhaps most importantly, how to take care of family. When his wife Debra became terminally ill, he took care of her with grace and patience.

After Debra passed in 2002, Flint fell in love with Patty O’Reilly, and they married in 2004. Flint and Patty were line dancers with Roses and Renegades, and after traveling extensively, settled into a life filled with cats, dogs, and grandkids.

Flint traveled all over the country – from Alaska to Florida, and Hawaii to Washington DC. Though, he could do without Washington DC.

Somehow, in between being the knight in shining armor for multiple wives, and raising generations of children, Flint also had time to build a successful career. He started out at Texas Instruments in Texas, and shortly into his career found a home at NAWCWD. He ended as the Program Director for the Sparrow Program, retiring from civil service into a contractor role for the same program. He finally completely retired in 2021.

Services will be held at Calvary Chapel, 210 E. Springer Ave., Ridgecrest, CA, at 1:00 pm on July 11, 2026.
