Gary went to be with the Lord March 20, 2022 at his home in Walker Pass. He was born April 4,
1934 to parents Carl and Ina Davis in Springfield, Missouri. He passed away just short of his 88th
birthday after a long battle with multiple health issues.
He grew up in Springfield, Missouri and went on to attend the University of Missouri at Rolla
where he graduated with an engineering degree. He then was recruited by the Naval Weapons Station
at China Lake. He married Ida Davis and they raised their family in Ridgecrest.
Gary spent 35 years working at China Lake where he became a Division Head at the Range
department doing airborne telemetry. He loved playing softball on base for the Watusi Warriors where
he was known as "Iron Arm Davis" to his teammates
In 1979 he became a charter member of the newly formed Aqua Bonita Flyfishing Club. He
spent many happy days fishing Hot Creek and the Bishop-Mammoth area. One of his favorite places was
on the Green River in Utah fishing with his buddies.
After retiring, he started a matting and framing business called The Border Shack. He loved
contributing his talent to many community banquets that raised money for charity.
In 1997 he married his wife Karen and they moved to Walker Pass to live the mountain life. One
of his favorite things to do was to get on his 1948 8N tractor to keep the road graded to their home. He
loved feeding the quail and watching the wildlife. His constant companion was his beloved golden
retriever Libby.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ina Davis, his first wife Ida and his son Chris.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Karen of 25 years, daughter Becky (Nick) Dukellis of Granbury , Texas,
stepchildren Bret (Laurie)Burke of Oceanside, Coleen (Ed)Salinas and Brian Burke of Ridgecrest,
grandchildren Nicky (Ariel)Dukellis of San Jose, Ben Dukellis of Bakersfield, Justin Salinas of Lancaster,
Megan Salinas of Toluca Lake, Alex Salinas of Ridgecrest, Kelsea (Don Black)Burke of Los Angeles,
Chase (Jessica)Burke of Oceanside, and Sean (Lauren)Burke of Warsaw, Indiana, great-grandchildren
Isla and Owen Burke and Tad Dukellis.
He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. A special thanks to the hospice nurses who
took such good care of him.
There will be a viewing Friday April 1, 2022 5:00 to 7:00pm at Holland and Lyons Mortuary 216
S. Norma St. Ridgecrest CA. Gary's funeral service will be held on Saturday April 2, 2022 at 1:00pm at
the First Baptist Church 1350 S. Downs St. Ridgecrest CA, with reception to follow at the Historic U.S.O.
Building 230 W. Ridgecrest Blvd. Ridgecrest Ca. His final resting place will be on the mountain he loved.
