Gerald Dwayne Johnson was born December 25, 1954 in Los Angeles, CA to Edward and Arline Johnson. During his childhood, his stepfather Albert Henderson, was the positive, steady, and constant influencer in his rearing. Affectionately known as Chuckie, Gerald was the third of nine children.
Gerald accepted the Lord at an early age and became a member of Travelers' Rest Baptist Church in Los Angeles where his family also attended. He and his two older brothers had beautiful voices and sung during Sunday Services. They became known as the Johnson Brothers. Gerald was the jokester of the family and loved making everyone laugh. He also bullied the younger kids of the family except his sister Vickie because she was not having it. Gerald enjoyed going to the horse races with his childhood friend, Ralph, who was a brother to him. Gerald graduated from Compton High in 1972. He later enlisted in the Army where he served for eight years and was a rifle marksman and an expert in handling grenades. He moved to Ridgecrest in 2012 where he worked as a handyman.
Gerald was always willing to help others. He had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back if it was needed.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Arline, brothers Ronnie and Karl, and sister, Julie. He is survived by three brothers, Edward Johnson of Ridgecrest, CA, Danny Henderson of Los Angeles, CA, and Anthony Henderson of Long Beach, CA; two sisters, Esta Bradwell of Portland, OR and Vickie Henderson of Ridgecrest, CA; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. All who loved him very much.
