Glenn McCartney passed away unexpectedly on June 23rd, 2025.
He wasted no time in this life and shied away from nothing. He lived in pursuit of his passions and in doing so became an inspiration to many.
To the Modern world, he was a former Sailor who found a career he loved, continuing to serve his country as a civilian at NAWS China Lake.
To the Medieval world, he was Barron Liam MacIan of the bloody foreland. A landed noble within the Society for Creative Anachronism, known well for his love of armored combat as well as his even greater skills in the kitchen.
To his regular Friday night game group, he was a skilled game master and storyteller. This led to his favorite title, "published author". Glenn completed a 6-book series, the first of which was released shortly after his death, "Sunset Blue."
Glenn was a devoted family man and a loyal friend. He was preceded in death by his mother, Constance (Givens) Beahn; his stepfather, William Beahn; his father, Glenn McCartney II; and his beloved wife, Laura Foster.
He is survived by his only son, Joshua McCartney. He also leaves behind his fiancé, Stacy Anderson, and her son, Wyatte Anderson, who brought joy and renewed purpose to his life.
Glenn is also survived by his brother, Todd McCartney, and sister-in-law, Jennifer (Lyell) McCartney; and his sister, Shelly (Beahn) Rose, and brother-in-law, Dan Rose. He was a proud uncle to Alex and Jasmine (Youngblood) McCartney; Hannah (McCartney) and Justin Port; Shelly (Weaver) and Jake Cather; LeAnne Weaver; and Sami (Weaver) and Derek Slusher.
Through his marriage to Laura, Glenn formed deep bonds with the Foster family. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, James Foster, and is fondly remembered by his mother-in-law, Catherine (Taylor) Foster; his brother-in-law, Philip Foster, and sister-in-law, Kathleen (Douglas) Foster; as well as his nephews Brian, Patrick, and Jason (Haley) (Fisher) Foster.
Beyond family, Glenn was surrounded by many close friends who became like family—people who shared in his life with loyalty, laughter, and love, and who will carry his memory with them always.
Viewing and Rosary reading will be held on July 17th, 4-7 pm, at Holland and Lyons funeral home. Services will be held at St Ann's Catholic Church in Ridgecrest, California July 18th at 10 am. With a reception following.
