Ilene Keristine Huss

June 16, 1933 – July 18, 2026

Ilene Keristine Huss was born on June 16, 1933, in the family home in East Los Angeles, California.

On June 2, 1956, she married, Logan A.L. Huss. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and service to others. Ilene is survived by her two daughters, Gloria (Steve) and Patty (Jim), who were the pride and joy of her life. The family later made their home in Whittier, where they raised their daughters throughout their school years. Ilene enjoyed a long and dedicated career, working for Pacific Bell, at her daughters’ school, and later at a CPA office in Whittier. No matter where she worked, she was always willing to volunteer and lend a helping hand. After retiring, Ilene and Logan moved to Red Mountain, California, where a new opportunity led her to become the Postmaster of the Randsburg Post Office. What was expected to be a short chapter became a remarkable 30 years of dedicated service to the community. Ilene’s commitment to her community extended far beyond her career. After she and Logan purchased the historic Randsburg Opera House, they opened a small café for the locals and transformed the Opera House into a gathering place for countless community events. From potlucks, pancake breakfasts, Veterans Day celebrations, Old West Days, haunted houses, weddings, funeral services, holiday parties, and fundraising events, Ilene was always at the heart of bringing people together. Above all else, Ilene’s greatest passion was animals. Over the years she cared for a pet skunk, dogs, chickens, a rooster, guinea pigs, fish, and even a lamb named Popcorn, which delighted the children at the local school while helping raise funds through popcorn sales. But her deepest love was always for cats—especially stray cats. She devoted countless hours to trapping stray cats, having them spayed or neutered to help stop the cycle of overpopulation, and then faithfully feeding and caring for them. Her compassion touched not only the people around her but also the countless animals she rescued and loved.
