Jack Frederick Latimer

Jack Latimer, 84
Don't grieve for me for now I'm free. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy.
Jack Latimer passed away peacefully March 16, 2021 surrounded by family at his home in Inyokern,
California.
Jack was born November 25, 1936 in Lusk, Wyoming to Howard and Frances Latimer.
The family moved to California in 1949 where Jack attended UC Davis earning the third ever Master's
Degree in Mathematics. In 1961, he and his new bride Stephanie (Stevie) moved to China Lake where he
began his 43-year career at the Naval Weapons Center. He held various positions throughout his carrier
including Weapon's Analyst, Head of Intelligence as well as Special Advisor to Command NAVAIR
Weapon's Division. He was responsible for creating and maintaining sensitive program security and
expected to also ensure the continuity and integrity of programs, personnel and Command to meet
National Security.
In his retirement years, Jack was very involved with the China Lake Museum Foundation where he
volunteered as a former board member and long-time historian. He also authored a book titled Project
Camel.
Jack enjoyed playing golf, cribbage, backgammon and most of all playing pool with his long-time friends.
During his retirement years, he and his wife Jo were able to enjoy extensive travel.
Jack is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jo; daughters Kristin Launder and Karin Faber; step-daughter
Donna Smiley; 5 grand-children, Jeremy and Nick Launder and Zak, Scott and Katie Faber; and 4 great-
grand-children.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Frances, his brothers Richard and Howard and his
late wife Stevie.
No service is planned at this time. Later in 2021 a celebration/reception will be announced. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to China Lake Museum Foundation.
