James Nelson Fletcher

September 18, 1952 — February 27, 2024

Ridgecrest

On February 27, 2024, James Nelson Fletcher, lovingly known as Jim, passed away at Adventist Health Bakersfield after succumbing to respiratory failure and complications from COPD. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jeffrey. Jim is survived by his wife, Tina.

Jim was born on September 18, 1952, to Robert C. and Frances Yocom Fletcher at the Kaiser steel mill hospital in Fontana, California. Jim's family lived in Riverside for a few years before moving to Scottsdale, Arizona, while he was in elementary school. The family moved back to California while he was in high school, and he graduated from Norco High School in 1970. He attended Arizona State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. After working for a few years as a Coco's restaurant manager, he obtained a law degree at the University of Arizona.

Jim began his law career working for the State of Arizona in the securities division. He later moved to Silicon Valley, where he served as corporate counsel at various companies, including Equitec, Toshiba, Computerland, and Hyseq. At Hyseq, he served as General Counsel and Vice President of Administration and helped build the company from the ground up. Jim enjoyed working with his colleagues and said the thing he missed most upon retirement was not having the camaraderie of working with a team of co-workers and friends every day.

During his free time, Jim enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

On May 18th at 10:00AM, a brief memorial for Jim will be held at Desert Memorial Park in Ridgecrest, California where his ashes will be laid to rest.
