Ridgecrest

James "Jim" Gordon Kight passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025. Born on August 6,1949, in Glendale, California, Jim spent his early childhood in Inglewood before moving with his family to Ridgecrest in 1959-a community he would proudly call home for the rest of his life.

After high school, Jim began his career with the Sierra Sands Unified School District. In the early 1980s, following his passion for building and craftsmanship, he founded Kight Construction. As a general contractor for over 40 years, Jim built far more than homes; he built a reputation grounded in integrity, dedication, and a genuine love for the community he served.

Jim's commitment to Ridgecrest extended beyond his work. He contributed countless hours to civic service, including his time on the City Planning Commission and his appointment to the Fair Grounds Board. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of local youth athletics and took great pride in helping shape opportunities for young people in the area.

An adventurer at heart, Jim found joy in motorcycle and bicycle riding and held a lifelong passion for drag racing . Whether on two wheels or four, he embraced life with energy, curiosity,  and a quiet determination that inspired those around him.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Denise Kight; his son, Jimmy Kight, and his wife Meredith Mapel; his step-daughter, Melinda Wagers, and her husband Jose Leos; his sister, Elaine Peterson, and her husband Barry; his brother, Wally Kight, and his wife Rosemary; as well as many nieces and nephews who cherished him deeply.

A memorial service to honor Jim's life will be held December 13th at 10:30 in the morning at the Church of Christ located at 729 N Norma St, Ridgecrest, CA 93555. A celebration of life will be held immediately afterward at Sage Hall located at the Desert Empire Fairgrounds.

He will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, and the lasting legacy he leaves within the community he helped build.
