Obituary

Janet (Moniz) Dake, 90, was born in Hayward California the third of four children. In her youth, she helped with her family’s mini-farm growing vegetables, caring for chickens, ducks, rabbits, pigs and also helped harvest apricots from their small orchard.

When Janet married in 1963, she moved to Ridgecrest CA where she and her husband Jim raised their three children. Janet worked with her husband (and their children) at his H&R Block office for over 20 years. 

She was a member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and in 1974, having lost over 100 pounds, she was crowned Queen at the TOPS International Recognition Days, in Seattle WA. 

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She especially enjoyed sewing for her children and encouraging them in their many activities. 

Janet was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Dake Jr., her parents Lydia and John Moniz, brother John (Alvin) Moniz, and sister Margery Gumm. 

She is survived by her daughters Robin Dake and Pamela Harrison, son-in-law Hal Harrison, son James (Randy) Dake, granddaughter Krystal Dake and sister Kathleen Fontes. Janet was kind to all she met and was always ready to share a smile. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Interment will be held at Desert Memorial Park in Ridgecrest on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 11:30-noon.In honor of Janet's love of animals, please send donations in lieu of flowers to the ASPCA.
