Jerome "Jerry" Joseph Balcer, age 87, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024 in Ridgecrest, California. He was born on May 11, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Frank Peter and Harriet Mary (Kozlowski) Balcer. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Jean (Cimmarusti) Balcer; his sister, Mary Zylla; and his brother-in-law, Philip Zylla.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Edward (Yvonne) Balcer of Ridgecrest, CA, Brian (Yorley) Balcer of Ridgecrest, CA, Jessica (Sam) Lester of San Antonio, TX, and Christopher Balcer of Los Osos, CA; his grandchildren: Susannah Balcer, Emily Balcer, Ruby Garcia-Balcer, and Kennedy Lester; and his step-grandchildren: Hazel Garcia and Gracey Garcia. Jerry also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and great-niece and nephews, including his cherished goddaughter, Kathy Evanilla of Temple City, CA. He also leaves behind his furever buddy, J.J.

Raised in the Catholic faith, Jerry served as an Altar Boy in his youth and maintained his devotion throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of Weber High School, Class of 1955. Shortly after graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he honorably served his country. After his military service, he dedicated 35 years as a Mail Carrier with the United States Postal Service. In 2000, he moved to Ridgecrest, CA so he could pursue his passion for prospecting. Motivated by the events of 9/11, he reentered the workforce as a Gate Guard at the Naval Air Warfare Station in China Lake, CA.

Jerry was a dedicated father who actively supported his children in both sports and scouting. For many years, he served as the Regional Commissioner of the San Gabriel Valley Lucky Baldwin District and was also a member of the booster club for Rosemead High School football. His commitment to serve extended to his workplace, where he was a representative for the National Association of Letter Carriers Union.

Jerry had a variety of interests that brought him joy throughout his life, including prospecting, woodworking, fishing, and gardening. His enthusiasm for these activities was a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. As a proud member of numerous prospecting groups, he was known by his nickname, "Sandtrap." As he aged, Jerry never neglected his roses, taking great pride in his garden.
Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, dedication, and sense of adventure touched many lives, and his absence will be felt profoundly by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, generosity, and passion for life will remain in our hearts forever.
