Jony Von Homer

Jony Homer, age 63, passed away peacefully at home on October 30th, 2023.

He was born on December 14th, 1959 in Socorro, New Mexico to Paul Homer and the late Patricia Homer. He was the middle sibling to Zindi Bazemore and Karl Homer.

Jony graduated Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, CA in 1978.  He received his AS in Drafting with honors from Porterville Junior college in 1980. While attending San Diego State University, he had a knee injury that caused him to leave his studies. He married Linda Sorensen on May 30th, 1987 and had one son, Paul James (PJ) Homer in 1994.

After college, Jony started working as a drafter for several NAWCWD contractors. He switched professions in 1990 when he started working for the Coso Geothermal Plant as the hazardous waste specialist. In 1994, he transitioned to NAWCWD working for Weapons Survivability, NAWC Hazardous Facility, VX-31, and Building 12.

Jony's passions were hiking, backpacking, hunting, fishing, basketball, camping and softball which he shared with his close friends. Jony was a dedicated husband, father, and friend. As a father, he loved teaching his son his many outdoor hobbies and coaching his baseball, soccer, and basketball teams.

Jony leaves behind his wife of 36 year Linda Sorensen Homer, son Paul James Homer (Taylor Tulao), father Paul Homer (Robyn Moore), sister Zindi Bazemore (Les), brother Karl Homer (Angie Rubio), father-in-law Keith Sorensen, brother-in-law David Sorensen (Lori), brother-in-law Ronald Sorensen (Jessica), nephews: Trevor Bazemore (Brandi), Brandon Sorensen (Amanda), Cory Sorensen (Paige), Kyle Sorensen (Beatriz), nieces: Shelbey (Eric) Frias, Allyson (Jayson) Swen, and 13 great nieces/nephews.  He is preceded in death by mother Patricia Homer, mother-in-law Louise Thomas, step mother-in-law Carol Sorensen, and step father-in-law Luther Thomas.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday December 2nd at 2pm at Calvary Chapel Ridgecrest, 210 E. Springer Avenue, Ridgecrest, CA 93555.
