Joy Lea Godett

Joy Lea Godett passed away April 22 at the Ridgecrest Regional Hospital at the age of 89. Joy was born August 23, 1935 to Arvol and Twyla Grace Griffith in Glendale, California. She graduated John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California in 1953 and went on to attend LA City College.

Joy married Jack Godett in 1955 and moved to China Lake where Jack worked as a surveyor for the Naval Ordnance Test Station. The two moved into a 30 foot travel trailer that was located on the base's trailer park until housing was available. After a short time they moved into a newly constructed duplex on Carricart Street in Wherry Housing and later to a house on McIntire Street. In 1969 Joy and Jack moved into a new home in Ridgecrest.

Joy worked at Bank of America for many years as an accounts manager at both the China Lake and Ridgecrest branches.

Joy enjoyed camping in the couple's travel trailer with many trips including ones to Alaska and Maine. After retiring she took up golf and spent many hours on the China Lake course.

Joy is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jack; son Roger and his wife Mary of Ridgecrest; son Bart and his wife Coco of Big Pine; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
