Kevin James Sheldon (also known as Kevie) passed away unannounced, unexpected and very peacefully
in his sleep on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
Kevin was born on September 15, 1956 in Rockville Centre, New York. To parents: Wesley Coolidge
Sheldon and Blanche Lorraine Boes. He will be missed by his brother Donald; sisters Jackie, Ally and
Siobhan; his nieces; and nephews.
In 1987, Kevin met BarbaraJean Rivera while they both worked together. Barbara approached Kevin by
introducing herself, "Hello, we haven't met, my name is Barbara Rivera" and the rest was history! They
said their hellos, fell in love, and were married. Kevin faithfully upheld his vows to BarbaraJean and his
promise to nurture their son, Ashlin E. Mattos. A promise he upheld until the day of his passing. He
admired Ashlin's wife, Sandy, and was known as "Groovin' Gramps" to his granddaughter Aislin Serenity
and as "Grandpa Sheldon" to granddaughter Kimberly Grace. In addition to his immediate family, he is
watching over his extended Rivera family, those who are living and those he is currently celebrating with
in heaven.
Kevin is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Blanche, as well as his mother-in-law Esther
Rivera who affectionately referred to him as her "Precious."
Kevin will be remembered for his nearly thirty-year career in support of the warfighter; he was a
physicist, genius, selfless giver, supportive, sensitive, humorous, opinionated, and the best handyman!
His garage was open 24/7 and fixed everything and anything for anyone.
Kevin appreciated sharing time with family and friends, he enjoyed science, documentaries, marvel
comics, loved the sunny outdoors, vegetable gardening, and lived life to the fullest! He was a great
martial artist and a Full Instructor of Jeet Kung Do (JKD) as well as an active member of the Catholic
Church, where he sang in the choir.
Kevin's family will host a viewing for all those who wish to say farewell at Holland & Lyons Mortuary at
216 S. Norma St. in Ridgecrest on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 1PM to 4PM.
Mass to be held at Saint Ann Catholic Church, 446 W. Church Ave., in Ridgecrest, the following
day, on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 10:30AM.
Kevin will be missed by those who knew him and will never be forgotten among his closest family,
friends, and the countless people who he helped through his love and generosity.
May Kevin's perpetual light shine forever.
