Ridgecrest

Margaret "Peg" Kenny Howes was born Aug 26, 1927 in Oakland California to Charles Augustus Howes and Lucy Bridget Kenny. She was preceded in death by her parents and 9 brothers and sisters and her beloved grandson Chad Corbin.
She studied nursing and then joined the Army where she met and married Milton Todd.  Together, they had three daughters, Peggy (Bruce) Royce , Jaime Anne Corbin (Jay Dunham) and Lucy (Michael) Pope.
After she and Milton divorced she went to University of Washington to get her Public Health degree.  She worked for the State of California as a Public Health Nurse in Glenn and Modoc Counties.
While  working for the State she started many programs to help migrant workers and young children. That was where she learned to love Spanish and for the rest of her life she studied the language even though she never did become fluent.
After the death of her second husband Robert Houser she set off on a journey north to Alaska to be a traveling Public Health Nurse to all the villages north of the Arctic Circle. In Alaska she became acquainted with many lifelong friends. While there she built her own dog sled and had three sled dogs.
After she retired and she moved to Cedarville where she had dogs, cats and horses.  She was very involved in the community.  She loved gardening and quilting.  She made quilts for all of her grandkids and greatgrandkids.
She was active in LACA (Latin America Community Assistance Foundation).  She went down to Honduras,  El Salvador and Guatemala many times to help build communities.  She sponsored many  Latin American children so they could go to school and on through college.
She always had several books that she was reading and seemed to know something about  everything.
At 90 years old she had a long full life but is still gone too soon.  She will be missed.
