Obituary

Margaret “Maggi” A. Travis Wade

Margaret “Maggi” A Travis Wade passed away in Ridgecrest, CA on 11 Feb 2026 at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her mother Margaret L. Gedonius, daughter Jocelyn Pittman, son Keith L. Travis, and grandson Alex Moore. She is survived by her son Preston Wade and daughter-in-law Lynn of Ridgecrest, granddaughter Megan Wade, grandsons D’Ron Pittman, Keith L. Travis II, Curtis Saxon, Camden Wade and spouse Rachel, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Maggi was born in Boone, Iowa, 29 November 1932, raised in Chicago, Illinois and lived in Los Angeles from 1951 until moving to Ridgecrest in 1980. She served as the Human Resource Manager for defense contractor, Comarco, WSD, where she remained until 1992. In February of that year, she and her family opened Ridgecrest’s first coffeehouse, Casa Java; a venture that gave her great joy and left her with many happy memories. Maggi was an integral part in making Casa Java more than a coffeehouse, where customers enjoyed her famous cinnamon twists, kolaches and crepes while relaxing and spending time with friends and family. When the business was sold in 2005, Maggi reluctantly retired, spending her time at home writing, reading and sewing, visiting family and friends, enjoying the company of her little dog, Mandy, and any occasion for laughter with those she knew. Maggi had a love for words and spent hours writing poems dedicated to her family or pondering life’s peculiarities, and even multiple chapters of a novel.

The family wishes to thank the IHSS caregivers and Oasis Hospice nursing staff for their compassionate care during her final months. Honoring her wishes, internment will be private, as is a final bon voyage that will be shared by family and friends.

In lieu of any remembrance, please consider a donation to the Cancer Society in the names of Keith L. Travis and/or Alex Moore.
