A long-time local resident Martha Jane Whisman passed away peacefully April 28, 2021 at the Ridgecrest home of her daughter Sheila L. Williams at the age of 80.
Marth was born April 3, 1941 in Bakersfield, California to William F. Kyner and Odean P. "Pat" Kyner (Thomas). She was the oldest of six children.
Martha moved to Ridgecrest in 1962 to work at the Naval Ordnance Test Station N.O.T.S. as a supply clerk. Over the years she received many awards for her work.
Martha retired in January 1996 after 33 years of civil service as a procurement technician in the contract division of the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, China Lake, California.
In 1965 she met a young sailor Robert H. Whisman after a short courtship they married in Las Vegas, Nevada December 9, 1966. Together they raised 4 children, Sheila, Phyllis, Robert and Brian.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents William and Pat Kyner, her half sister betty Dipomazio, sister Nita Raye Kyner and Brother William Joseph Kyner.
Martha is survived by her husband of 54 years Robert, daughters Sheila (David) Williams, and Phyllis George, Sons Robert (Tina) Whisman and Brian Whisman. Sister Charlotte (Lamar) Timmows, Brothers Ronald (Cheryl) Kyner and Terry (Judy) Kyner. Twelve grand children Christopher Newton, Jordan Reilich, Brooklynn (Ryan) Zeigler, Jamilee (David) Harrell, Cassidy Alyssa, James, Noah and Ryan Kichak, Paul (Brittney) Whisman, Tony Whisman, Travis and Olivia Bradley.
Ten great grand children and an eleventh due this summer. They are Haley Lynn Newton, Alex, Ashlyn, Asher, and Adalynn Zeigler, Travis Tranah, Zoey and Taylor Harrell, Maizie Sizemore and Jenson Whisman.
Martha will be missed by her many friends and extended family, Cora (Art) Rivera, Rosie (Dennis) McClean, Anna L. Rivera, Coriana M. Mondie and Kurt and Kimberly Kramer.
Martha was an avid bowler for many years until diagnosed with dementia and Parkinson's disease, but cancer was the ultimate cause of her passing.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, the staff of Simply Caring Angels and Premier Hospice and Home Care for their aid in Martha's final days.
A memorial service will be held at H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel May 8, 2021 at 9 AM.
Internment will take place after the service at Desert Memorial Park
