Michael Wayne
Dowd
December 12, 1952 – April 7, 2026
Sierra Lanes
4:00 - 6:00 pm (Pacific time)
Michael Dowd passed away peacefully on April 7 from complications of his dementia. His battle was brief, but he is no longer struggling. He was born on December 12, 1952, in London, Kentucky. Mike’s mom, Royce, moved Mike and his brother, Dale, to Ridgecrest, when Mike was 2 years old. She met and married Johnny Dowd. He raised Mike and Dale as his own.
Mike graduated from Burroughs High School in 1971 where he played basketball and baseball. After a couple of short stints away from Ridgecrest, he returned to Ridgecrest. He worked on the base for 29-1/2 years retiring in 2005.
He met his wife, Nancy, while working on the base. They started dating in 1998, finally marrying in 2016. They enjoyed bowling, fishing (with their beloved dog Gordon) and hitting the casinos in Las Vegas and Reno.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (née Means); brother Dale Dowd of Carson City, NV; nephews Jamie Dowd (Tracy) of Sparks, NV; Justin Dowd of Carson City, NV; Jeremy Turner (Renee) of Bakersfield, CA; Kevin Means, Jr (Sarah) of Ridgecrest, CA; John (JJ) Cruz, Jr (Karen) of Pelham, NH; Mike Cruz (Corrie) of Fallon, NV; Nathan Gooding (Thomas) of Las Vegas, NV; Randy Cruz of Las Vegas, NV; and Taylor Felder of Houston, TX. He is also survived by his in-laws Jimmie Means, Lorrie Means, Kevin Means, Kelly Palludan and Daniel Means; and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Johnny Dowd, his mom Royce Dowd Smith and his beloved dogs Peewee and Gordon.
His final wishes were for no services. He wants family and friends to get together, have a drink and share stories of how great of a bowler and fisherman he was. Celebration of Mike will be held on May 2 4:00-6:00 at Sierra Lanes in Ridgecrest.
He is deeply missed and forever loved.
