Nadine K. Herling “Deenie,” 91, of Ridgecrest, California, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 24, 2026, at her residence in La Quinta, California.
Nadine was born in San Gabriel, California, on September 2, 1935. Soon after her birth, her parents, Jack King and Jesse Broxholm, moved Nadine and her two siblings, June and Jerri, to Ridgecrest. Both of her siblings preceded her in death.
Nadine graduated from Burroughs High School and soon after married Theodore Herling, who also preceded her in death. When Theodore was called into military service, Nadine moved with him to Germany. After returning to the United States, Nadine fulfilled one of her greatest dreams- becoming a mother. With an open heart and tremendous love, she adopted seven children and devoted her life to her family.
Nadine was an amazing mother who gave her children unconditional love, guidance, and support. She is survived by her children, Wayne (Sherri) Herling, Connie Guzman,
Jerry (LeAnn) Herling, Tami (Andy) Fraser, Rick (DeAnn) Herling, Teddi (Bryan) Benson, and Eli (Miko) Armstrong. She was also a proud and loving grandmother to 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Nadine had two great passions beyond her family. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she devoted 45 years to serving the Seventh-day Adventist Church school as a principal, teacher, and volunteer. She touched many lives through her dedication, kindness, and willingness to serve others.
Her second passion was flying. Nadine loved airplanes and even owned a couple of planes herself. She especially enjoyed spending time at the Inyokern Airport. Her adventurous spirit was also reflected in her love of hiking and the great outdoors, particularly the beautiful area around Kennedy Meadows.
Nadine will be remembered for her generous and selfless heart, her unwavering love for her family, her faith, her adventurous spirit, and the many ways she cared for those in need. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love that will continue through her children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched.
Burial services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Ridgecrest Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 555 Las Flores Ave. The family would be blessed by your presence as they gather to remember and celebrate Nadine's life. Lunch will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider making a small donation in Nadine's honor to the SDA Church School.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
