Nancy Ann Jenkins was born March 16, 1947 in Hawthorne, Nevada to Elmo and Ivol Slaton. She finished her race on May 28, 2020 and met Jesus the author and perfecter of her faith.
Her family moved to Ridgecrest when she was 8 years old and she has lived in Ridgecrest ever since. She graduated from Burroughs High School, Class of 1965 and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Education and her teaching credential from Pasadena Nazarene College. She was a teacher for Sierra Sands Unified School District for over 20 years, spending her time in Kindergarten and 1 st grade.
She began teaching children in Sunday school at Ridgecrest Church of the Nazarene when she was 15 years old and taught even into her retirement. She strongly believed in Jesus' teaching in Matthew 19:14 "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Nancy was a natural born teacher and always wanted to go the extra mile to make school, holidays, and quality time special for her students, Sunday school students, daughter, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
After retiring she enjoyed traveling and spoiling her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elmo and Ivol Slaton, her younger brother David and many beloved aunts and uncles. Nancy is survived by her husband; Larry, her daughter; Jennifer, mother-in-law; Elizabeth, son-in-law; Wilson, and her grandchildren; Makayla, Abigail, Brayden and Zachary.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Ridgecrest Church of the Nazarene on June 12 at 11am, with social distancing guidelines in place. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Nancy's name to Empower a Child, an organization she worked with to impact lives.
