Nolan R Clawson passed away at his home on April 11, 2019 at the age of 95. Nolan was born on Feb 29, 1924 to Vollie Roy Clawson and Clara Lee Washington in Rocky, Arkansas. As a young boy Nolan lived in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and the family finally settled in Hatfield, AR where he graduated from high school. Nolan proudly served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 on the USS Laws as a Sonarman Second Class and a Helmsman. After returning home he met the love of his life, Jacque, at the local movie theater where she worked in the concession stand and would give Nolan free nickel bags of popcorn. Nolan would always say that he was still paying for that popcorn. Nolan and his young bride married in June 1948 and had one son, Stephen, born in Mena, AR. They moved from Mena to Oklahoma City where Nolan worked at Tinker AFB as an aircraft mechanic. While there he became a fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and always made time to watch their football games on TV. The young family moved to Houston to be closer to Jacque's family. Nolan worked as an auto mechanic for one of the local Ford dealerships. This is where their second child, Kathryn, was born. In the spring of 1953, the young family moved to Ridgecrest..
Nolan had several jobs ranging from auto mechanic to cement truck driver before going to work at the China Lake naval base as a mechanic in 1960. He retired when the transportation department was contracted out in 1982.
Nolan was proceeded in death by his mother, father, sister and the love of his life, Jacque. He is survived by his son Stephen Clawson, daughter Kathryn Witty, two grandsons, Christopher Witty and his lady Aime Banta and James Witty and his wife Becky and two great grandchildren Elijah Witty and Lila Witty.
Services will be held on April 20, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Holland and Lyons Mortuary, with graveside service immediately following.
