Obituary

Patricia Ann Kulas (née Taunton), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Ridgecrest, California, on May 28, 2026, at the age of 78. Her devoted husband of nearly 59 years, Ralph, was by her side.

Born on August 15, 1947, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Patricia lived a life defined by creativity, compassion, faith, and unwavering love for her family. She was a gifted artist whose passion for art touched many lives. Whether in the classroom, or through her own work, Patricia delighted in sharing her creativity and encouraging others to discover and hone their own artistic talents.

Patricia and Ralph were high school sweethearts whose love story spanned a lifetime. They were married in September 1967 at St. Matthias Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and built a life centered on family, friendship, and service to others. Together, they raised their daughters, Beth, Christina, and Amanda. In 1982, they moved their family from the suburbs of Milwaukee to Ridgecrest, where they enjoyed being close to Patricia’s parents, Helen and Melvin Taunton.

A lifelong learner, Patricia pursued her love of the arts through higher education, studying fine art at Alverno College before completing her degree at California State University, Bakersfield.

Professionally, Patricia spent much of her career at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, primarily within the Technical Information Department (TID). She was respected by colleagues for her dedication, talent, and warm spirit.

Above all else, Patricia treasured her family. She found immense joy in celebrating milestones, creating traditions, sharing stories, and spending time with those she loved. Her grandchildren brought her special pride and happiness, and she cherished every opportunity to be part of their lives.

Patricia is survived by her loving husband, Ralph Kulas; her daughters, Amanda Kulas, Beth Hudson, and Christina (Greg) Miraglia; her grandchildren, Jason Hudson, Jared Hudson, Danielle “Mimi” Walding, Aidan Miraglia, and Max Miraglia; her sister, Maryann Hiser; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Melvin Taunton; her sister, Nancy Irving; and her daughter, Jessica Leigh.

Patricia’s legacy lives on through the family she nurtured, the lives she touched, and the creativity and compassion she shared so freely with others. She will be remembered for her gentle heart, artistic spirit, enduring faith, and the love she gave without reservation.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 446 W. Church Avenue, Ridgecrest, California, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday June 20th 2026. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Patricia’s life.

Though deeply missed, Patricia’s memory will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew and loved her.
