Russell David Petersen, Sr. passed away on July 13th, 2023, at the Bakersfield Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, California.
He was born October 18th, 1960 in Torrance, California to Richard and Frances Petersen. At age 6, his family moved to Ridgecrest, California where his father had been stationed at China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station. He met the love of his life, Susan Cooper, at Sherman E Burroughs High School where they both attended. After school they married and settled down together, where they would have three children. Russell worked odd jobs until getting into construction work and finally spending several years working at Searles Valley Minerals in Trona, CA. Eventually, he retired on disability due to an eye condition and enjoyed working on his home, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Russ is survived by sister Karen Allen; son Russell Jr.; oldest daughter Kaleana Bartholic (Ryan); youngest daughter Jaclyn Morales; grandchildren Zoey Morales, Sophia Morales, Colbie Bartholic, and Bailey Bartholic. He was preceded in death by his wife Susan Cooper Petersen; parents Richard and Frances Petersen; brother William and sister Christine.
Russ was a hard worker and a proud father; coworkers and friends alike spoke highly of him. He liked sports and talking with his grandkids. He was a dedicated craftsman with skills and proficiency honed through years in the trade. While his last few years were very hard, he was always thankful for his family and their support. He will be missed very much.
A memorial service will be held at Holland and Lyons Mortuary on July 28th, 2023 at 3 p.m.
