Steven M. Curran, 70, was taken by ALS (Lou Gerig’s disease) on March 20, 2026, after suffering for the last 18 months.
Steve was born on September 13, 1955, in Leonardtown, MD to James and Beatrice Curran. He graduated from Burroughs High School in 1973, where he was a champion member of the Burroughs High School Tennis Team.
After high school Steve continued his education at Bakersfield College, Chico State and USC where he obtained his master’s in petroleum engineering. He worked briefly in private industry before working as a Drilling Engineer for the California State Bureau of Lands in Long Beach, CA, for 42 years before retiring.
Steve moved to San Antonio, TX after retirement, bought the home of his dreams and added his little dogs Cassie and Chole to his family. He remained active all his life and loved playing golf, pickleball, skiing and going to the gym.
Steve is survived by his daughter Anita Curran, San Antonio, TX, brothers and sister and their spouses, Jim and Dawn Curran, Palmer, AK, Margaret Johns and Jim Hood, Bakersfield, CA, Paul and Ellen Curran, San Antonio, TX and David and Nancy Curran, Ridgecrest, CA, many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends Alex and Cindy Salas.
Steve has been cremated. There is a graveside service at Desert Memorial Park 801 S San Bernardino Blvd. Ridgecrest, CA on May 30, 2026, at 10 am. A reception will follow at St. Ann’s Parish Hall at 446 W Church Ave. Ridgecrest, Ca 93555. Please join us to Celebrate a Life well lived.
The family would also like to acknowledge and thank his caregivers, Matianna, Ana, Claudia, Lupita and Abdus who took excellent care of Steve during his illness.
