Sybil Fern Turner passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on February 9, 2024 with her family by her side.
Sybil was proceeded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Warren Turner. Her parents John and Lavernie Jackson, her daughter Gail Allen, daughter in law Linda Turner, plus many more family and friends.
Sybil is survived by her three children Alan Turner, William Turner (wife Lottie) and Jill Refo. Sybil was blessed to have twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, nineteen great great grandchildren and two great great great grandchildren.
Sybil was born March 11, 1928 to John and Lavernie Jackson in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was the 2nd oldest of four children. The family moved from Oklahoma to Porterville, California in the late 1930s. While in high school she met her future husband, James W. Turner who was home on leave during World War II. They married on February 23, 1946 and moved to China Lake, California where James worked for the Navy. By 1953 they had four children and moved off the base to live on 5 acres in the Ridgecrest area. After the children started school, Sybil went to work in the early 1960's at Mary Sue's Dress and Clothing store in Ridgecrest. The store changed hands in the 1970's and became Gorrono's Clothing store. She retired in 1986 to travel around the country with her husband. They made several trips to the east coast to see family and grandchildren.
She loved being with family and friends, reading, hiking, camping, swimming and playing card games. She especially loved her church, Immanuel Baptist Church where she attended since 1958. She loved working in the nursery with the babies in the early years, singing in the choir, bible studies and life groups. Sybil knew no stranger, she loved the Lord her God with all her soul, might and strength and loved to share his goodness with everyone.
On Thursday, February 22, 2024 a celebration of life will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church at 11:00 am at 201 Graaf Avenue, Ridgecrest, CA, with the cemetary service immediately following at the Desert Memorial Park Cemetary. There will be a reception with her favorite tacos following graveside service at Immanuel Ministry Center at 1201 N. China Lake Blvd. Family and friends are welcome to come and celebrate Sybils life. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Immanuel Christian School in Ridgecrest, CA in honor of Sybil Fern Turner.
