Troy Michael Braem

September 27, 1960 — December 2, 2021

Ridgecrest

On December 2, 2021, Troy Michael Braem, 61 of Ridgecrest, Calif., left this world suddenly to join his Heavenly Father.

Mike Braem was born on September 27, 1960 in Olympia, Washington. He was the second son and youngest child of Donald Bell Braem Sr. and Sharon Lee Smith.

A lifelong resident of Ridgecrest, Mike spent his childhood exploring the valley, finding adventure in every corner.

As a young adult, he owned and operated Rib Construction, a local concrete company. During this time, he started his family and began to impact the lives of everyone he met.

He often spent time camping, fishing, hiking, and enjoying the wonders of God's creation. He was very passionate about music and spent years playing the guitar and singing with the worship team at Crossroads Community Church. He eventually became a member of the local band, Drivin' 395.

After years in construction, Mike joined the Ridgecrest Police Department, where a fellow officer introduced him to the love of his life, Cathy Ryan Lighthiser.

His passion for law enforcement flourished. He communicated well with others, and engendered trust with everyone, even the "bad guys" liked Officer Braem. He touched many hearts throughout his career. Later, he transferred to Kern County Sheriff's Office where he served more than 20 years retiring in 2017. Subsequently, Mike worked as an armorer and security specialist for the federal government.

Mike's lack of fear and love for adventure allowed him to live life to the fullest. He was a man of integrity, dependable, strong, and a great storyteller. He was eager to lend a helping hand in the community. If asked, he would drop everything, staying until the job was complete. All relationships were purposeful and meaningful to him. He loved deeply and his laughter will live in our memories of him.

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Donald Bell Braem Sr., his mother Sharon Lee Middleton, and his sister Deborah Lee Townsley.

Mike is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cathy Braem, his brother, Donald Bell Braem Jr., his children Phillip Braem (Kirstie), Stacey Crow, Jessica Glover (Kendrick), Casee Bryan (Kevin) and Nick Lighthiser (Bryttani). He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. His legacy lives on in his 14 grandchildren.

Services will be held December 17, at 9 a.m. at Desert Christian Center, 100 East Bataan. Reception to follow at the Desert Empire Fairgrounds.
