It is with great sadness we announce that Winifred Anne McCord passed away on November 4, 2024, in the hospital in Bakersfield, CA due to a kidney infection complication that led to sepsis. Born on April 29, 1940, Winifred, affectionately known as Winnie, was a beacon of positivity who immensely cherished her large family that included many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Winnie is survived by her son, Frank Hughes Jr.; her brothers, Archie and Harry; and her sister, Bobbie.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard McCord, and her children, William (Bill) Hughes and Robin Hughes.
Throughout her life, Winnie found joy and solace in her hobbies, which included crafting, cardmaking, scrapbooking, and her love for animals. These activities were a reflection of her creative spirit and compassionate nature. Most of Winnie's time and energy revolved around her family. She was a loving wife to her late husband, a caring mother to her children, and a selfless "Gram" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Winnie was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family, but we find peace in knowing that she is now reunited in Heaven with her husband, oldest son and daughter whom she missed dearly.
A service to honor Winnie's life will be held at Holland and Lyons Mortuary. Those who wish to celebrate Winnie's memory are invited to attend and share in the remembrance of a life well-lived. Further details on the service will be shared below once finalized.
Winnie was very passionate about animals and had rescued her dog, Mitzi, who is now in the care of Winnie's granddaughter, Carrie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests only your thoughts and prayers or donations can be made to the Ridgecrest animal shelter, Kern Valley animal shelter, or your local animal shelter.
